The swimming at a Carbon County lake is closing earlier than expected because of the lack of lifeguards.

Officials at Mauch Chunk Lake Park announced on the park’s Facebook page Tuesday that swimming will be closed over the Labor Day weekend, the normal close to the season, because of “unforeseen changes with lifeguard availability.”

“Mauch Chunk Lake Park is committed to providing a safe recreational area for everyone,” the post said.

All other recreational facilities, including boating and fishing, picnicking and the beach will be open for normal park hours this weekend.
