Carbon County Court - Drug cases
A Carbon County woman entered guilty pleas in two pending criminal cases on Tuesday in the county court.
She was one of six defendants to enter guilty pleas before Judge Joseph J. Matika.Takes vehicleMelissa Lynn Atkinson, 28, of Albrightsville pleaded to one count each of possession of a controlled substance, unauthorized use of an automobile and forgery, as a felony two.She was charged by state police at Fern Ridge for an incident on March 10 when she took her mother's vehicle without permission from the parking lot of the Dollar General Store in Penn Forest Township. She was later stopped and had 18 packets of heroin in her possession. The forgery charge stems from another incident involving her mother. She took two checks belonging to her mother and forged her mother's name on them.Atkinson is currently an inmate in the county prison on the charges. Matika told her at the time of sentencing she faces a prison term which could be in the county jail or a state prison.Matika deferred sentencing and ordered the adult probation office to prepare a presentence investigation report.Other pleasOther defendants entering pleas included:Michael Edward Sarik, 34, of Allentown, pleaded to one count of possession of drug paraphernalia and two summary motor vehicle code violations.He was arrested on Feb. 14 along Route 209 by Nesquehoning police following a vehicle stop.Matika placed him on probation for a year on the drug charge and ordered he get a drug and alcohol evaluation and render 50 hours of community service. On the second summary offenses he was fined a total of $50 and costs.Tyquann S. Brown, 24, of Edwardsville, Luzerne County, pleaded to one count of possession of a small amount of marijuana.He was arrested following a vehicle stop along Interstate 80 westbound in Kidder Township by state police at Fern Ridge. He was a passenger in the vehicle.He was fined $200.Jacqueline Marie Dolly, 21, of Tamaqua, pleaded to one count of possession of a small amount of marijuana.She was arrested on Dec. 30, 2015, by Lansford police along Patterson Street. She was observed walking with another woman during the early morning hours by officers who stopped to speak to them. Marijuana was found during a search Dolly's backpack.She was fined $200.Bonnie J. Muscle, 39, of Tamaqua, pleaded to one count of possession of drug paraphernalia.She was arrested on April 3 by Lansford police in the area of 446 E. Bertsch St.She was placed on probation for six months and ordered to render 25 hours of community service.Christian Allen Youngcourt, 23, of Hazleton, pleaded to one count each of possession of drug paraphernalia and defiant trespass.He was arrested on May 20 by Weatherly police who found him on the property of Norfolk Southern Railroad. He was also found to have drug paraphernalia on him.He was placed on probation for a year on each count, running concurrently, and ordered to render 50 hours of community service.Each defendant sentenced must also pay court costs of about $1,000 and a $50 per month supervision fee while on probation or parole.
