Carbon County court — DUI
A total of 11 defendants were sentenced on Friday in Carbon County court on driving under the influence charges. They previously entered guilty pleas to the charges.
President Judge Roger N. Nanovic II imposed sentences on the following:
Carlo R. Romero, 34, of Hazleton, was sentenced to serve 90 days to five years in prison, pay a fine of $1,500, license suspended for 18 months and supply a DNA sample.
He was arrested on Jan. 24, 2021, by state police at Lehighton for DUI of a controlled substance.
He was given credit for two days already served and will begin serving the sentence at 4 p.m. on June 24. He was granted work-release privileges.
Andrew Floyd Orach, 29, of Palmerton, was sentenced to serve 72 hours to six months in jail, pay a fine of $1,000 and get a mental health evaluation.
He was arrested on Nov. 29, 2019, by state police at Lehighton for DUI of a controlled substance.
He spent over six months in an inpatient rehabilitation program run by the Salvation Army. He was given credit for that time and paroled.
Stephen M. Richards, 46, of Allentown, was sentenced to serve 72 hours to six months in jail, pay a fine of $1,000 and license suspended for a year.
He was arrested on Aug. 29, 2019, by Palmerton police for riding a bicycle while under the influence.
He will begin serving his prison term at noon on June 17.
Erik E. Reppert, 55, of Whitehall, was placed in the county’s Restrictive Conditions of Probation program (house arrest) for six months with the first 10 days on electronic monitoring, ordered to pay a fine of $1,000 and license suspended for a year.
He arrested on Oct. 12, 2021, by state police at Lehighton for DUI of a controlled substance.
Joshua Jason Miccicke, 27, of Jim Thorpe, was sentenced to serve 10 days to two years in prison, pay a fine of $2,500 and license suspended for a year.
He was arrested on Feb. 8, 2020, by Palmerton police for DUI of a controlled substance.
He will begin serving the jail term at 6:30 p.m. on June 17 and serve it on consecutive two-day weekends.
Betsy Rae Piscelli, 64, of Lehighton, was placed in the house arrest program for six months with the first 10 days on electronic monitoring, ordered to pay a fine of $1,000 and license suspended for a year.
She was arrested on March 31, 2021, by state police at Lehighton for DUI of a controlled substance.
Eric Lee Rex, 43, of Nesquehoning, was placed in the house arrest program for six months with the first 10 days on electronic monitoring, pay a fine of $1,000 and license suspended for a year.
He was arrested on May 8, 2021, by state police at Lehighton for DUI of a controlled substance.
Arthur Lee Billig, 36, of Lehighton, was sentenced to serve 72 hours to six months in jail, pay a fine of $1,000 and license suspended for a year.
He was arrested on March 27, 2021, by state police at Lehighton for DUI of a controlled substance.
He will begin the jail term at 8 p.m. on June 15.
Geoffery Allen Painter, 39, of Bethlehem, was sentenced on two charges, DUI and driving under suspension - DUI related.
On the DUI charge he was sentenced to serve 10 days to two years in jail, pay a fine of $2,500 an license suspended for a year. On the suspension count he was sentenced to serve three to six months in prison and a fine of $500. The jail terms run concurrently.
He arrested on May 27, 2017, by state police at Lehighton along Bridge Street in Weissport.
Painter is currently an inmate in the Northampton County prison awaiting sentencing in another criminal matter.
His Carbon sentences began immediately.
Victor M. McKillop, 60, of Elmont, New York, was placed in the house arrest program for six months with the first 10 days on electronic monitoring, pay a fine of $500 and license suspended for a year.
He arrested on Sept. 4, 2021, along Route 1003, by Kidder Township police. He refused a test.
Christopher D. Shumway, 48, of Lehighton, was placed on probation for six months and ordered to pay a fine of $300.
He arrested on May 2, 2021, by state police at Lehighton for DUI of alcohol.
Each defendant must also pay court costs of over $1,000 and a $50 per month supervision fee while on parole or probation.
