The Carbon County Register of Wills & Clerk of Orphans’ Court, Jean A. Papay, has announced the following for the end of the month of May.
Total files opened in the Register of Wills & Clerk of Orphans’ Court: Testamentary/Administration, 37; Incapacitations/Guardianship, 4; Terminations of Parental Rights, 1; Adoptions, 1; Revenue, 6; Affidavit of Death, 1; Miscellaneous, 4. Total files opened, 54.
Total marriage licenses issued, 43; genealogy research, numerous.
Acting agent for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Department of Revenue, for the collection of Inheritance Tax: Collected, $191,474.32; Commission, $2,177.97 - transferred to Carbon County General Fund.
Total fees collected: county fees, $13,803.14; judicial computer fees (state), $2,012.50; state tax and trust fund (state), $881.50; county data processing fee, $1,132.50; automation fee, $485; marriage licenses, $2,580; guardianship tracking fees, $165; and interest, $1.43. Total collected, $23,239.04; total to county general funds, $19,860.04.
Prothonotary report
Prothonotary Kayla M. Semmel released the statistical report of activities for her office for the months of April and May.
There were 301 cases started in April with the following breakdown: civil actions, 24; custody, 7; DJ appeal, 3; divorce, 18; ejectment, 1; license appeal, 2; mortgage foreclosures, 8; name change, 1; protection from abuse, 24; quite title, 2; tax sale, 2; judgments, 168; Stip/waiv liens, 9; PSFV. 2; custody modifications, 11; Aud/Fin/Reports, 1; miscellaneous, 3; and writs, 15.
A total of 45 passport applications were processed in April. In addition, a total of 24 renewal applicants sought assistance from the office; and 46 photos were taken. Passports are by appointment and pictures can now be taken in the office.
Total income generated was $26,9512.61; prothonotary fees, $20,785.60; custody/divorce fees, $1,931.25; data processing fees, $3,082.50; interest income, $47.76; PFA surcharge courts, $45; PFA surcharge sheriff, $25; and stenographer fess, $1,034.50.
In addition to the above fees, the office remitted to the county for the remote access fund for remote access fees of $3,600, remitted to the state department of revenue (fees collected on new cases) $3,727.03; and automation fund $675 - money collected for future automation and improvements to the office. Sales tax money turned over to the state for tax on passport photos, $39.10.
