The Schuylkill County Commissioners voted 2-1 to adopt a budget for 1990 that will increase real estate taxes by three mills.

Commissioners Paul Sheers and Franklin Shollenberger voted for the spending plan while Commissioner Richard Higgins opposed it.The budget vote was preceded by a debate on the issue of reassessing county properties, a move Higgins said he is in favor of. Shollenberger took a stand against the reassessment while Sheers said he is willing to discuss it. Officials said the tax increase would bring the county's millage to 23, two less than the state allowed maximum.
