A Carbon County woman pleaded guilty in the county court on Tuesday to an assault count, and also got a lesson in how to dress for court.

Jacqueline Tresa Rose Vitolo, 30, of Albrightsville, entered a plea to one count of simple assault for an incident on Nov. 3, 2015, in the parking lot of the Lehighton hospital along North 11th Street.She was scheduled to plead in the morning session of court before Judge Steven R. Serfass. However, she appeared for court wearing a pair of shorts, which Serfass considers improper attire for court.A member of the court staff told Vitolo to leave the courtroom and return wearing proper attire — pants or skirt.Because she lives in Albrightsville, she had to drive back home and change her clothes. She returned for the afternoon session and entered her plea.When a defendant receives notice of a court appearance it notes that “proper attire” must be worn.Vitolo was charged with assaulting Ingrid Eichman during an argument. Eichman had injuries to her face and left eye.After the incident Vitolo went to the mental health unit of the hospital and later entered a counseling program. There were also indications of alcohol abuse.Serfass sentenced her to time-served (22 days) to 12 months in jail and ordered her to get a D&A evaluation, continue her mental health counseling, render 100 hours of community service, have no contact with the victim, pay court costs of about $1,000 and pay a $50 per month supervision fee while on parole.
