Landmark Conference fall academic honor roll announced

The Landmark Conference recently recognized 428 student-athletes, including 53 from Moravian College, by selecting them for the 2019 Landmark Conference Fall Academic Honor Roll. The honorees were selected from all eight Landmark Conference institutions.

Times News area athletes competing for the Greyhounds were well represented on the list.

The men’s cross country team saw Northern Lehigh graduate Gavin Kemery selected earn academic honors for the third straight fall. Tamaqua graduate and sophomore Brad Clemson also was selected.

A member of the men’s soccer team that finished 2019 with an 11-7-1 record while playing in the Landmark Conference Tournament for the second straight season after the program’s first double-digit win total since 2002. Tamaqua graduate Riley McHugh earned academic honors.

After helped the cross country team earn a runner-up finish at the 2019 Landmark Conference meet, Northwestern Lehigh graduate Rachel Mikols earned her third selection on the Academic Honor Roll.

Pleasant Valley graduate Morgan Covart was selected after helping the women’s soccer team post a 7-7-1 mark this past season. Another Pleasant Valley graduate, Renee Mapa, made the Academic Honor Roll after a strong season with the volleyball team.

Eight student-athletes were named Players of the Year and 27 student-athletes were also named to the All-Sportsmanship team.

The Landmark Academic Honor Roll recognizes all fall student-athletes of sophomore standing or older with a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or higher. The student-athletes must complete the fall season in good standing with their team. The Fall Academic Honor Roll begins the academic award season for the conference with the Senior Scholar-Athlete for the fall sports to be named later this month.

Moravian had student-athletes from all six of its fall teams that compete in the conference with the women’s cross country program leading the way with 13 honorees. The women’s soccer team had 11 selections while the men’s cross country and field hockey squads each had nine student-athletes selected. The men’s soccer program registered seven honorees followed by the women’s volleyball squad with four.
