2021 general election: Schuylkill County races

In Schuylkill County on Tuesday, District Attorney Michael A. O’Pake, a Democratic, won his second term and was unopposed, getting 27,483 votes.

Republican Sharyn M. Yackenchick was unopposed for the controller position and got 25,993 votes.

Two county judges were up for retention and both were given another 10-year term. Judge James P. Goodman received 21,465 yes votes to 6,283 no. Judge Charles M. Miller got 20,642 yes votes and 6,637 no.

Three district magistrates were up for election and all three were unopposed.

David A. Plachko, Port Carbon, got 3,957 votes; Anthony J. Kilker, Shenandoah, got 2,242; and Edward J. Tarantelli, Frackville, 4,269.

State races

Schuylkill County votes strongly support all Republican candidates in elections to the three top courts in the state, Supreme, Superior and Commonwealth.

In the Supreme court race Kevin Brobson defeated Maria McLaughlin, 20,427 to 10,522. Brobson won the statewide vote.

For Superior court Megan Sullivan got 21,915 to 8,642 for Timika Lane. Sullivan won the statewide race.

For Commonwealth court Stacy Marie Wallace led the four-person race and got 20,198 and her running mate, Drew Cromton, 18,151. Democrats Lori A. Dumas got 9,672; and David Lee Spurgeon, 8,009. Wallace and Cromton won statewide.

There were retention votes for sitting judges on the state courts. All received positive results.

John T. Bender and Jane Bowes, were retained to the Superior court. Bender got 17,267 yes and 8,830 no; while Bowes got 17,321 yes and 8,708 no.

Anne Covey and Renee Cohn Jubelirer, were both retained to the Commonwealth court. Covey getting 17,488 yes and 8,477 no; while Jubelirer got 16,834 yes and 8,957 no.
