Mahoning looks to hold the line on taxes next year

There’s a strong likelihood Mahoning Township residents won’t see an increase in next year’s municipal tax rate.

Township secretary Natalie Haggerty reviewed the 2022 spending plan with supervisors during a budget workshop on Wednesday.

Haggerty said that next year’s budget was crafted without a tax increase, which would leave the millage rate at 6.75 mills.

“I was very pleased putting this together,” Haggerty said.

Supervisors briefly discussed hiring a full-time road crew member.

However, the board decided to utilize part-time help next year, no new hires.

Supervisors lauded Haggerty for piecing together next year’s spending plan.

“This is very good,” Supervisor Myron Zeke Blahy said.

“I’m impressed,” Supervisor Robert Slaw added.

The board expects to grant final adoption of next year’s spending plan in December.

In December 2020, the board approved this year’s budget with no tax increase.
