Tamaqua rescue funds to replace lost 2020 revenue
Tamaqua Borough Council held its regular monthly meeting for October. A motion was made to reimburse the fire companies and other borough departments for lost 2020 revenue with funds from the American Rescue Plan.
Borough Manager Kevin Steigerwalt said the reimbursement will follow a formula that is not a dollar-for-dollar match, but will require financial records from the companies and departments for the last several years to make the amount determinations.
Tonia L. Collevechio was hired as the borough secretary-treasurer trainee at an annual salary of $50,000. Collevechio was hired for a six-month probationary period.
Council approved the adoption of an ordinance prohibiting parking on the east side of Patterson Street across from 32 Patterson St.
Council approved the purchase of street name signs for the Dutch Hill and East End sections of town at a cost of $9,956.57. The purchase would be made from U.S. Municipal Supply.
Council also amended the agenda to include the advertisement of an ordinance prohibiting parking along the west side of Rolling Mill Avenue. A brief discussion was held regarding the new construction at the St. Luke’s parking lot and a possible violation of the sidewalk ordinance. Since the lot plans were reviewed by both the planning and zoning boards, the matter had to be referred for further review.
Council approved the following training for members of the police department: Officer Andrew Seip to a two-day standardized field sobriety test training in Lehighton at no cost and Cpl. Thomas Rodgers to a one-day Glock Armorer’s Course in Bangor at a cost of $250.
Councilman Brian Connely commended the borough’s fire departments for participating in fire prevention week activities at the elementary school.
