Former medical building to be winterized
A former medical building that will eventually house the Mahoning Township offices and police department will be winterized.
Supervisors unanimously agreed on Wednesday to winterize the building located at 2175 Blakeslee Blvd. Drive West at a cost not to exceed $2,000.
That came after Supervisor Myron “Zeke” Blahy suggested the work was needed.
“There’s a lot of outside maintenance that should be done,” Blahy said.
Supervisor Robert Slaw concurred.
“That building should be winterized,” Slaw said. “My opinion is it should totally be winterized.”
In a related matter, supervisors approved a proposal from ABC Refrigeration Heating Cooling, Walnutport, in the amount of $398.
As part of the proposal, ABC will perform preventive maintenance on all heating and cooling equipment twice a year, spring and fall.
In addition, ABC will change filters, blow out drain lines, drain pans, condensate pumps, and HVAC water lines.
Also, ABC will check Freon levels, controls, wiring, contractors, condensate pumps, thermostats, and coils.
In July, supervisors voted to move forward with a settlement on the former Penn Medical building on Route 443 just west of Normal Square.
The plan is to renovate the building and move the township offices and police department to the location.
Once renovation work is complete, the Mahoning Township Police will use the lower level, and the township offices will be located on the second floor.
The purchase price of the property that includes the two-story building, as well as 14 acres of land, is $375,000. The property was assessed at $595,000.
Supervisors had been looking at the building since last fall, which once housed the offices for Dr. Floriel Diaz.
