Ex-state policeman charged with assault over fantasy football

A former state police officer has been arrested by Mahanoy City police due to an assault over fantasy football.

Michael J. Zulkowski, 31, of 100 Pennsylvania Ave., Shenandoah, has been charged with burglary, simple assault, and terroristic threats for an incident that occurred on Dec. 13.

According to an affidavit of probable cause filed by Patrolman Thomas Rentschler against Zulkowski with Magisterial District Judge Anthony J. Kilker of Shenandoah:

Rentschler responded to a reported assault at 101 S. Catawissa St., Mahanoy City. Schuylkill 911 said Zulkowski fled the scene in a maroon Mercury Sedan, possibly heading toward Shenandoah.

Rentschler met with the victim, Douglas Litwhiler, a Rush Township police patrolman.

Litwhiler was visibly shaken and bleeding from the mouth area, and also had scratches and bruising to his right upper arm area.

Litwhiler provided police with a written statement that at 6:15 p.m., Zulkowski banged hard on his door and forced his way in to his residence while he was sitting in his recliner watching television with his 3-year-old son.

Zulkowski ran at Litwhiler and punched him in the mouth, demanding his money.

Litwhiler said Zulkowski punched him in the right side of the face and said, "You will go get the money or I will kill you."

Zulkowski then grabbed him by the throat, said his 3-year-old son was watching and crying, saying "Get off daddy."

Zulkowski then got off Litwhiler and said, "You'll go get the money now and I'll be back or next time it will be worse."

Litwhiler said all of this stems from a fantasy football league that Zulkowski runs.

The league is not over yet, and he took control of Litwhiler's team so Litwhiler can't play anymore.

Litwhiler said he posted on the league message board that Zulkowski can pay for his team.

Litwhiler told police he was scared for his life, and Zulkowski's face looked like he was in rage and was going to kill Litwhiler.
