Residents of Tamaqua borough are encouraged to take advantage of free distribution of smoke detectors.

WNEP, Kidde, Home Depot and local fire departments are teaming up for the 13th Annual Operation Save A Life program.The initiative includes distribution of 13,000 Kidde smoke alarms to at-risk homes across northeastern and central Pennsylvania, free of charge."The only stipulation is that the detector must be installed by a member of the Tamaqua Fire Department," said Tom Hartz Jr., fire chief.Tamaqua residents can contact their neighborhood fire department to make arrangements.
