A Tamaqua couple, victims of a fire started by a neighbor's careless smoking, have been victimized again.

William and Claudette Keich, 118 Center St., Tamaqua, haven't been able to live in their home since the March 24 fire.While none of the buildings were insured, the Keichs were smart enough to have renters insurance.They were told, by an insurance company representative, to leave their belongings in the burned-out building while their claim was processed.On March 31, at 9 a.m., the couple went to their former home and discovered that someone had made off with William's tools.The tools were in the basement of 118 Center St., a building that was locked.The thieves entered the fire-ravaged building at 116 Center St., went to the third floor and entered the Keich premises through a large hole in the wall, created during the fire.The suspect(s) then went through the home and removed the tools from the basement.The tools were secured in the basement when the Keichs left the area at 10 a.m. on March 29.Total value of the stolen goods is estimated at $1,063.The missing tools include Craftsman brand saws, drills, wrenches, a socket set, hammers, screwdrivers and vice grips. Also taken was a Bosch circular saw.Anyone with information on the theft is asked to contact Tamaqua police at 570-668-5000.
