Polk supervisors discuss waste center, zoning issues
Polk Township Supervisors discussed several issues this week:
Solid Waste and Recycle Center
“We have a grant that hasn’t really gone anywhere yet, but we are looking into possibly using it to purchase a forklift,“ said Brian Ahner, supervisors’ chairman and roadmaster.
Also, Ahner reported the company that hauls away the used tires for the township finally came and picked them up.
“I think they took 320 tires,” he said
Codes/zoning
Tracy Herman, the codes/zoning enforcement officer, had a busy month. Herman reported she issued 23 certificate of occupancy Inspections, 28 building permits, 32 zoning permits and 14 enforcement notices were issued, and she said all but six are resolved.
Herman hasn’t been in her position that long, and Supervisor Carl Heckman commended her for doing a great job following up on all the complaints and cleaning up the neighborhood.
Parks and Rec
The parks are now officially open. Several improvements were made, including new benches to replace several removed benches.
On Friday, the Monroe County Garden Club will hold a tree planting at 10:30 a.m. in the park, and Saturday, the park will do a second planting.
Since time is short for planting trees, and rather than miss the season, Heckman suggested the township pay for the purchase of trees from local businesses, and then when the Park and Rec grants are received, the township can be reimbursed. A motion passed to go forward with Heckman’s suggestion.
Veterans memorial
Candy Burger, a member of the Polk Township Veterans Memorial, reported the donations are coming in, and landscaping is in progress. Also, responses are coming in from people who will be coming to the memorial service.
Burger told the supervisors a mock-up of the memorial is ready so people can see it that day.
“That way, if there is anything wrong with any spelling or under a category, they can let us know right then. It would be the best because we would still have time to correct it,” she said.
