Man stabbed in chest in Coaldale

Tamaqua police arrived to a reported domestic disturbance in Coaldale on Wednesday to find man with a knife embedded in his chest.

Officers said the man is being treated at St. Luke’s Hospital, Bethlehem.

According to police, officers were called to the 100 block of East High Street at 5:22 p.m. and found the man and a woman on the porch. Police said the man also had a cut to his neck.

Officers immediately provided aid and were able to stabilize the weapon until emergency medical personnel arrived.

A preliminary investigation indicates that the incident began as a domestic disturbance involving several people inside the residence.

Police said a physical altercation occurred and one person had a minor laceration.

The man with the serious injuries, police believe, self-inflicted the wounds during the incident.

He was initially taken to St. Luke’s Miners Campus and later transferred to St. Luke’s in Bethlehem.

Police are continuing their investigation.
