A Nesquehoning councilman who has made it his mission to beautify the town is looking to start a volunteer citizens group to help with projects.
George Sabol recently announced that he is looking for residents who would be willing to offer some of their time and talent to fix up parks, clean up the area and just help the town where they live.
Sabol said a person can give as much time as they want when projects are happening, whether it be mulching, cleaning up litter, moving items or acting as a flagger so other volunteers are safe if they are working by a road.
One project Sabol currently has in the works is an area of land that the borough recently purchased along West Mill Street.
“It’s going to have a railroad theme to the park,” he said, noting that it makes sense since it is directly next to the active rail line in the town. His hopes are that rail fans and residents will enjoy the park to watch passenger excursions such as the Reading and Northern’s 425 steam trips.
But the park isn’t the only thing Sabol has plans for in the near future.
“It is anything with the borough,” he said. “Our hope is to clean this town up.”
There are many areas in the borough that have recreational beauty, including the creek near Locust Street, and the pond in the Hauto Valley Estates, and Sabol wants to make sure people can use them.
If you are interested in joining the group, Sabol said you can reach him either via email at g3sabol@gmail.com or by phone at 570-778-9058.
