DEVELOPING ANTLERS

After shedding last year’s antlers in early February, the white-tailed buck begins growing the new set by late April.  This photo taken on May 19 reveals about 2 inches of growth already.  In June and early July, with good nutrition, a buck’s antlers can actually grow almost an inch a day. The Pennsylvania Game Commission announced that its new hunting and trapping licenses for the 2026-27 seasons will go on sale Monday at 8 a.m. BARRY REED/SPECIAL TO THE TIMES NEWS
