A project to repair its borough maintenance building roof will cost Walnutport over $50,000.

On a unanimous measure, borough council on Thursday awarded a bid to JB Roofing Systems LLC, Harleysville, in the amount of $51,528 for the repair project at 100 Carbon St.

Before the vote, Councilwoman Patrice Hunsicker questioned why council wouldn’t go with Alan Kunzman Roofing & Siding Inc. of Freemansburg.

“Alan Kunzman is local,” Hunsicker said. “If there is a problem, would we have a quicker response?

Afterward, council decided to award the bid to JB Roofing Systems LLC.
