Diamond Fire Company to celebrate 125th anniversary with parade

A parade will highlight a two-day celebration to commemorate a milestone for Walnutport’s fire company.

Borough council announced on Thursday that Diamond Fire Company will observe its 125th anniversary June 11-12.

Contacted after the meeting, Diamond Fire Company Chief Michael Wentz said the event will kick off the evening of June 11.

Wentz said there will be a block party each day that will have vendors with food and refreshments, along with bands both days.

He said a parade will be held at 1 p.m. June 12. The tentative route will see the parade go down Washington Street up Canal Street, then up Main Street where it will turn on Lincoln Avenue and come back down Third Street, where it will disband at the fire company.

Wentz noted that other fire companies will be invited, adding it will probably be a six-county radius, and that there will be judging of the apparatus, along with awards given out following a small ceremony.

“We’ve been planning this for three years now,” Wentz said. “It’s going to be like a four-county firemen’s parade, just probably a little smaller.”

Wentz said the event will be open to the public, and will follow social distancing rules.

“We’re more than capable, and can handle it (social distancing) all,” he said.
