Jim Thorpe will receive $4,000 through the hotel tax grant for services it provides in the form of police protection during community events.

On Thursday, the Carbon County commissioners approved the release of funds to Jim Thorpe borough for its police budget for 2016 tourist activities.Commissioners' Chairman Wayne Nothstein said the police provide additional protection during special tourist weekends, most notably the St. Patrick's Day Parade and the Fall Foliage Festival in October.In other matters, the commissioners approved the resignation of Sean T. Dowd of Effort as a deputy sheriff, effective April 12.They also approved the change of status for Deena L. Fital of Lehighton from aging care manager I to aging care manager II, Area Agency on Aging, effective April 14.
