It will cost Northern Lehigh School District at least $220,000 for a new roofing system at one of its elementary buildings.

On an 8-0 vote, with Director Natalie Green absent, the school board on Wednesday authorized administration to enter into a contract with Tremco Roofing to install a new Alphaguard roofing system on the west wing of Peters Elementary.The project is through state bid, and estimated to cost between $220,000 to $235,000, to be paid from the long-range maintenance fund balance in the 2015-16 school year. The roofing system comes with a 20-year warranty.Greg Derr, director of support services, said the existing roof's warranty ran out one year ago."There are areas of delamination," Derr said. "The roof coding is peeling up in spots, and in order to maintain the roof's integrity, it's time to restore."In another matter related to Peters, the board authorized administration to enter into a contract with Snyder Hoffman and Associates to design, engineer and assist with the bidding of the cooler tower replacement and boiler replacement, with a not to exceed amount of $19,550, to be paid from the district's Capital projects account.Derr said both pieces are original the building."Both pieces are from the 1990 building project, are at the end of their life cycle, and need to be replaced," he said.In other business, the board:• Appointed Kerry Hill as a Slatington Elementary office aide, replacing Diana Beltran, who resigned, at a salary of $10.40 per hour, for 4.5 hours per day, five days per week, for up to 180 student days as needed, effective today, with a 60-day probationary period ending April 10.• Appointed Ann Marie Belo as a middle school cook's helper, replacing Melanie Mohr, at a salary of $9 per hour, for 2.5 hours per day, five days per week, for up to 180 student days per year, plus additional cleaning days as needed, effective today, with a 60-day probationary period ending April 10.• Approved the change in status for Angela Henninger from part-time Slatington Elementary School cook's helper to full-time Slatington Elementary School cook's helper, with no change in salary, effective Jan. 20.•Acknowledged that teachers Derek Long and Kara Richardson have completed the requirements that would entitle them to a salary increase for the second half of the 2014-15 school year.• Approved Angel Gerould, elementary, mid-level English reading specialist and family consumer sciences, at the 2014-15 substitute teacher rates.
