Northern Lehigh receives donations for Backpack Buddies, Bulldog Stadium

Northern Lehigh School District continues to be the recipient of several generous donations.

Superintendent Matthew J. Link at Tuesday’s school board meeting acknowledged several individuals who recently donated to the district.

Link said that an anonymous donor donated $1,000 to the district’s Backpack Buddies Program.

“That’s the program that we use to support our families in the greatest need for food stability,” Link said. “We have a team that gets those bags together and they go home with the children on either a Tuesday or a Friday because of the hybrid schedule.”

Link said the donation is extremely appreciated.

“And it will absolutely go to good use this year, maybe more so than ever,” he said. “If you’re listening out there, thank you very much and on behalf of Northern Lehigh School District, your generosity is deeply appreciated.”

Additionally, Link said that Tim Kichline and Matheson Gas provided a donation of a wireless microphone system for Bulldog Stadium.

“This is another very generous donation to support all activities in the Bulldog Stadium,” Link said.

Athletic Director Bryan Geist said Kichline is a football official.

“And he really enjoys coming up to Bulldog Stadium, and a lot of times we have TV coverage and with officials, they’re making calls on the field and sometimes the signals are misunderstood,” Geist said. “And in this case, he wanted to make a donation through his company, and he inquired and he wanted to know if we had ever looked into wireless microphones.”

Geist said they were able to get a quote, which was somewhere around $2,700.

“They purchased the equipment, and they will put a wireless microphone on what we refer to as the white hat in football, and they’ll be able to make calls from the field,” he said. “And we’ll also be able to use this during track and field to put it on the orange jacket guy, the guy who starts all the races, and will be able to make calls so everybody knows where we’re at in a track meet.

“It’s a little bit of a luxury item, but it was a great donation, and we thank Mr. Kichline and Matheson Gas for making that happen.”
