Preventing embezzling

The Tamaqua Area Chamber of Commerce is hosting a breakfast seminar designed to help business owners identify and prevent the crime of embezzlement. Sponsored by Schuylkill County District Attorney Christine Holman and Rich Shupp, president of Cloud Service center and a certified QuickBooks pro adviser, the breakfast will be held from 8-9 a.m. Nov. 10, at the Tamaqua Community Arts Center, 125 Pine St.Preregistration is required and may be made by calling the chamber office at 570-668-1880.Veterans DayThe Tamaqua Area High and Middle Schools will be conducting a brief Veterans Day assembly on Nov. 11. The event will be held at 7:25 a.m. in front of the Tamaqua Area Senior High School.Tamaqua area veterans will be recognized during a roll call. To add names to the roll call list, contact Tamaqua High Assistant Principal Tom McCabe before Nov. 9.The public is welcome to attend.Calvary UMThe Rev. Ed Bean will officiate at the 10:25 a.m. worship service this Sunday in Calvary United Methodist Church in the Lewistown Valley. Sunday school classes will be held at 9:15 a.m.Also on Sunday, the annual pumpkin fest will be held at 6:30 p.m. Participants are reminded to bring a snack to share.An hour of prayer and praise is held at 7 p.m. on Wednesdays.Rally Day will be held Nov. 1. In addition to the morning service, which will feature puppets, songs and a special presentation by the Calvary Band, the group Mended Heart will perform a concert at 6:30 p.m.St. Peter's UnionThis Sunday's 9 a.m. service in St. Peter's Union Church in Mantzville will include the observance of Reformation Sunday. Sunday school will be held at 10:15 a.m.Also on Sunday, a harvest party will be held from 4-7 p.m.; Daisies, Brownies, Junior, Cadet and Cub Scouts will meet at 6 p.m.Next week's activities include: Tuesday, prayer group meets at 5 p.m.; Thursday, junior choir rehearses at 7 p.m., senior choir practices at 7:30 p.m.The Thrivent Member Appreciation Dinner will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday.All Saints' Day will be observed during the Nov. 1 service, which will include Holy Communion.
