Chestnuthill Township announces Halloween events

Families in Chestnuthill Township have at least two options for Halloween night festivities.

Neighborhood trick-or-treat will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Oct. 31.

At Tuesday’s supervisors meeting, they cautioned kids to follow safety measures and go to houses where they know the residents.

Families can also attend an event co-hosted by West End Park & Open Space Committee and West End Fire Company on Halloween night.

“We will have a drive-thru trick-or-treat event at the firehouse from 6 to 8 p.m.,” said Bernie Kozen, executive director of WEPOSC.

They will set up tables and hand out candy, he said.

• Supervisors said they are taking prudent measures for any and all ordinance violations. They specifically mentioned the house at 104 Scarlet Oak Drive in Effort, which is a short-term rental property. It is not in the general commercial zone, which is the only zoning area allowed to have short-term rental properties. Supervisors said they have received noise complaints and found out about it when the septic system was blown out. The rental activity stopped when township solicitor Tim McManus got an injunction. However, the illegal activity soon resumed. One resident asked what they should do in the meantime. Supervisors recommended keeping a log and contacting state police when they have nuisance and noise concerns.

• Supervisors passed the 2021 WEPOSC budget, which was presented to them recently.

• Supervisors canceled the Oct. 20 and Nov. 3 meetings. They will meet at 8 a.m. on Oct. 26 to pay the bills and conduct other business that may come before the board.

• The 2021 budget will be open for review at the Nov. 17 meeting at 7 p.m. It will remain open for 20 days.
