A Carbon County man was sentenced to a state prison term on Thursday after pleading guilty to driving under the influence and a drug possession count.

President Judge Roger N. Nanovic II sentenced Nieko Eric Evans, 30, of Lansford, to serve one to seven years in a state correctional institution on the DUI count and two to 12 months on a charge of possession of a controlled substance, methamphetamine. On a charge of driving while under suspension, DUI related, he was sentenced to serve 90 days in prison. All the terms run concurrent to each other.

Evans was arrested on the DUI charge on May 5 by Lansford police along Bertsch Street. The suspension count also stems from this arrest. The drug arrest occurred on July 17, also by Lansford police, for an incident near the Turkey Hill Market along West Patterson Street.

In addition to the prison terms, Evans was ordered to pay fines totaling $3,500, license suspended 18 months on the DUI count and 12 months on the suspension charge, must submit a DNA sample and pay court costs of about $1,000.

He was given credit for 29 days spent in jail to date on the charges.
