Pleasant Vly. High to close because of COVID cases

Pleasant Valley School District announced Sunday night in a call to parents that the high school and Monroe Carbon Technical Institute will close for three days, Monday through Wednesday, after a teacher at MCTI tested positive for coronavirus.

According to the MCTI website, two people have been diagnosed with COVID-19.

Superintendent Lee Lesisko said in a statement that the MCTI teacher taught a class on Thursday.

The closure is in accordance with the state Department of Education.

During the shutdown, all high school students will still have school virtually using the Google classroom platform. Classes at the high school and MCTI will resume on Thursday.

Lesisko said essential high school personnel including technology, security, administration, secretarial, maintenance and custodial staff will report as normal. All other buildings and offices will operate as normal.

On Friday, the school district announced that a teacher at the high school tested positive for the virus. The was the first teacher to test positive.

Lesisko said in a statement on Friday, “Late last night, we learned that one of our staff members at the high school has tested positive for COVID-19. We are following our Health and Safety Plan and taking all the necessary safety precautions that we should be taking, including contacting the PA Department of Health.”
