Tamaqua parade

The deadline for registration for Tamaqua's Annual Halloween Parade has been extended to this Thursday. The parade is scheduled for Tuesday. Registration forms are available at the Tamaqua Chamber of Commerce Office, 114 W. Broad St. Kenneth Frantz of Barnesville has been named as this year's grand marshal.There is no entry fee. Cash prizes will be awarded for the top entries as determined by a panel of judges.The parade is sponsored by the Tamaqua Lions Club, with assistance from the Tamaqua Area Chamber of Commerce. Participants will assemble at the east end of the borough no later than 6:30 p.m., and the line of march will then head west on Broad Street, promptly at 7 p.m.For more information on the parade, call 570-668-1880 or email

President Melody Weicker conducted the business session and Ruthann Feane offered the invocation "When Autumn Sashays By."Pearl Davis was welcomed back and Jim Engle and Anthony Zahora were added to the sick list.The group discussed a trip to the Mohegan Sun Casino, scheduled for Oct. 19.The next meeting will be held at 1 p.m. on Oct. 22, at the Tamaqua YMCA, 1201 E. Broad St. A guest speaker is scheduled to attend.The group is open to anyone 55 or older and the YMCA is handicap accessible.Soup socialMonthly soup socials are being held at Trinity United Church of Christ, 22 Lafayette St. The next outreach social will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. on Nov. 7. The event is part of Trinity's "Feeding the Hungry" program.The public is welcome to attend and share in the free soup, friendship and God's love. Those attending are reminded to use the lower parking lot entrance into Founder's Hall.Bethany ECThe Rev. Kevin Roberts will officiate at the 8 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. worship services this Sunday in Bethany Evangelical Congregational Church. Sunday school classes are held at 9:15 a.m.Also on Sunday, the ministry council will meet at 11:45 a.m. and the 23rd Psalm group meets at 2 p.m. at Laurel Commons.Activities for next week include: Tuesday, prayer time at 8:30 a.m., women's growth group meets at 12:30 p.m., Good News Club meets at 3:45 p.m. at the South Ward Playground; Wednesday, sew much more group meets at 1 p.m., breaking the code group meets at 1 p.m. at the Majestic House, GriefShare meets at 7 p.m.; Thursday, men's growth group meets at 7 p.m.Life groupLife Group Bible study sessions will be held every Wednesday, from today through Nov. 11 at the Tamaqua Community Art Center.
