Almost comical

Dear Editor:

One of the most famous stand-up comedy routines of the 20th century was Abbott & Costello’s “Who’s on First?” I just read the front page article about Pleasant Valley School District’s latest fiasco with their Cyber Academy program, and it immediately brought back that iconic skit.

If what was reported in the newspaper is even half true, the Pleasant Valley School Board and its superintendent have just one-upped Abbott & Costello:

School board: “Who is in charge of the program?”

Superintendent: “H.S. Principal Mathew Triolo has stepped in to assist.”

School board: “Who is Triolo assisting?”

Superintendent: “The individuals running the cyber academy.”

School board: “According to our organizational chart, he’s not in charge of cyber.”

Superintendent: “Not yet.”

Obviously, neither party has any idea of what’s going on or who’s doing what, so they’re playing their own version of “Who’s on First” in an effort to transfer blame and disguise their abject incompetence. Meanwhile, the fate of several hundred would-be cyber students hangs in limbo.

All this would be comical if it were not so tragic and sad for the many senior homeowners on fixed incomes who just received their school tax bill and saw a 25% increase in their taxes due to the recent obscene property reassessment.

You would think the least they could expect is some semblance of competence in the individuals they hand six-figure salaries to every year.

And for all you millennials out there who have never heard of Abbott and Costello … pick up your device and Google it.
