Democrats sweep borough council offices in Summit Hill

The Democratic candidates swept borough council balloting in Summit Hill Borough in the General Election on Nov. 3. Four four-year terms of office were available.

Winning them were David Wargo, Gregory Kosciolek, Michael Kokinda II and Karen L. Ruzicka.Wargo had the benefit of appearing on both the Democratic and Republican ballots as he won dual nominations in the primary on May 18. Combined, he collected 689 votes.Democratic incumbents Kosciolek and Kokinda finished second and third, respectively, with 630 and 606 votes, while Ruzicka was one vote shy of Kokinda's total with 605 votes.Failing to win a seat on the board was the lone Republican candidate, David B. Hiles, who tallied 489 votes.There was only one other position on the ballot that was available in the borough, that being the six-year term of constable.Democrat Max Matyascik will be sworn in as the borough's constable in 2016. He was unopposed and received 633 votes.Summit Hill had the highest percentage of voters turn out on Election Day. A total of 982 people voted, which was 50.78 percent of the 1,935 eligible registered voters in the community.
