Woman leads police on high-speed chase
A Schuylkill County woman has been charged after leading police on a high-speed chase.
According to the affidavit of probable cause filed by officer Ryan Poeldnurk of the Jim Thorpe Police Department against Brittany Hinkle:
At 3:43 p.m. June 4, Poeldnurk was monitoring traffic near the bridge on Route 903 when he observed a white Dodge Dakota pickup.
The registration was supposed to be displayed on a 1995 Eagle Talon.
Poeldnurk saw a woman with dark hair in the driver seat, identified as Hinkle, 25.
The vehicle did not come to a complete stop at the stop sign, then turned left on 903 (North Street) and he followed the vehicle across the bridge and activated his emergency lights at the intersection of 903 and Route 209.
The truck began speeding toward Nesquehoning on 209, passing cars along the way.
Hinkle continued to ignore Poeldnurk and went toward the Broad Mountain.
Poeldnurk stopped following the vehicle and notified the Communications Center to inform the further police departments in the county.
The Weatherly Police Department also attempted to stop the vehicle but the vehicle did not stop.
Hinkle faces charges of driving under the influence of alcohol or controlled substance, and turning movements; required signals; pass when prohibited; driving at safe speed; careless driving; driving while operating privilege is suspended/revoked; unauthorized transfer or use of registration; obstructing administration of law or other governmental functions; and altered, forged or counterfeit documents and plates.
She is currently incarcerated in the Carbon County Correctional Facility in lieu of $20,000 bail, and scheduled to appear July 20 for a pretrial status conference in the Carbon County Court of Common Pleas.
