History committee dedicates book to four people

The book "Slatington at 150 Years: More Stories to Share" was the brainchild of many borough residents.

Members of the Slatington 150th History Committee dedicated the book to four influential people, who provided assistance to the committee: David Altrichter, William Leickel, the late Owen "Truck" Roberts and the late Rollin Jones.Committee member Mike Hofmann Jr. said many hours were spent researching at the Slatington Library, Allentown Public Library, Lehigh County Courthouse and Lehigh County Historical Society in Allentown."If you have not yet gone to these institutions and are interested in local history, I would highly recommend each of them to you," Hofmann said. "The librarians and research specialists at each location, particularly our own Rose Pugh and Louise Bechtel, are great helpers, and assisted our entire committee in a great capacity."The committee conducted a variety of online searches to find more out about the borough, including the Ancestry.com database."Additionally, we are extremely appreciative of the family members and community service members who contributed information regarding either their family or organization," he said.Hofmann said, "The support of those from Slatington, either still here today, or born and raised here and then moved elsewhere, was greatly appreciated and can be found in the book's long list of contributors," he said."We are particularly indebted to those who contributed articles, photos and research materials toward the project."
