Quilt group's ornaments benefit Palmerton Area Library

Members of the SewCial Guild wanted to help the Palmerton Area Library, so they offered their handmade and sewn ornaments for use as a fundraiser.

"It's so nice of them to do this," said Diane Danielson, the director of the library. "They really enjoy using our space upstairs and offering some classes. This was their way of giving back to the library."Now through the first of the year, ornaments - big and small - are available to purchase. The suggested donation price of the ornaments range from $1 to $4. And all of the proceeds go to the library. The display is set up by the wall by the windows; can't miss it. There's a tabletop Christmas tree covered in fabric ornaments sitting on a long table.Star ornaments that look like they popped off a quilt hang from the Christmas tree along with puffy, gingham angels and snowmen, earth-tone mini-stockings filled with evergreens and berries and so much more.Danielson said the ornaments would make a great gift for a neighbor, the mailman or anyone on a shopping list. They could also be used as a decoration on a gift box, instead of a bow.The SewCial Guild meets every third Thursday at 11 a.m. It is sponsored by the Quilted Crow fabric shop across the street from the library, she said.In addition to the items created by the Guild, artist Paula Zelienka donated large Christmas cards with a print of one of her paintings on them. The snowy scene is a painting of the front door of the library."I have that painting," Danielson said. "It's a watercolor."The prints of the snowy scene could be framed or given as it was intended - a Christmas card. The inside is blank with lots of space to write a message. Each card is $1, and an envelope is included. The historical society donated Christmas balls with a picture of the library on them. Each ornament is $1. Danielson said the Christmas balls were once a part of a series of eight images of buildings in Palmerton. So far, the sale is "going quite well," she said. "We've sold about half of the Christmas balls."The library is open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday through Friday, and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday. The Palmerton Girl Scout Troop 3215 is also doing a coat drive through Dec. 16. The drive will benefit Family Promise.
