Woman admits part in burglary, machete attack

A Carbon County woman admitted in the county court her part in a violent burglary that occurred in Lansford last June.

Marisa Ann Becker, 26, of Lansford, pleaded guilty to one count each of aggravated assault and theft on Tuesday before Judge Joseph J. Matika. Charges of robbery, burglary, criminal conspiracy, simple assault and receiving stolen property were dropped in a plea bargain with the district attorney's office. Becker was charged with her part in a break-in that occurred on June 19 at 4:36 a.m. at 16 W. Abbott St.Lansford police charged that Becker and Jacob Fischer, of Lehighton entered the home of Robert Clifford III and assaulted him in his basement room at that address. When officer Jason Helmer arrived on scene he found Clifford covered in blood and with visible injuries to his head, back, left arm and both hands.The investigation revealed Becker and Fischer entered the home and struck Clifford with a machete. When Clifford grabbed the machete away from Fischer, the defendant pulled it back, causing a deep cut to Clifford's hands. When Clifford yelled for help from his parents, Becker and Fischer fled with Clifford's iPhone 4S.Clifford was able to identify the two suspects.Fischer's case is pending.Matika deferred sentencing and ordered the adult probation office to prepare a presentence investigation report.
