A Carbon County man was sentenced on Friday to a state prison term on four criminal counts to which he previously entered guilty pleas and is facing a big restitution bill.
Michael Dennis, 32, of Jim Thorpe, was sentenced to serve 12 to 36 months in a state correctional institution by Judge Joseph J. Matika on counts of criminal trespass, a felony, possession of a controlled substance, receiving stolen property, obstruction in the administration of law and a summary offense of driving under suspension, DUI related. He had six to 24 months added on for a probation violation for a total sentence of 18 to 60 months.
Dennis was charged with the obstruction and suspension counts for an incident on Jan. 16 filed by Jim Thorpe police when he was found in a garage in the area of Walnut Avenue and School Alley. The trespass count stems from an incident on Feb. 5, 2018, at a home along South Street in Jim Thorpe. In that case the commonwealth agreed to drop a burglary charge. The receiving count stems from an incident on April 19, 2018, filed by Mahoning Township police.
Matika also ordered Dennis to make total restitution of $47,307.97 for damages done in two of the cases.
Dennis was also ordered to get a drug and alcohol evaluation and follow any recommendation for treatment, have no contact with any of the victims, pay a fine of $500 in the suspension case, render 50 hours of community service when paroled and pay court costs of about $1,000.
He was given credit for a total of 393 days already served.
