Commissioners OK hazard pay for some court, prison employees

Nineteen Carbon County union court and prison employees are beginning to receive hazard pay for meeting with clients during the COVID-19 pandemic.

On Thursday, the board of commissioners voted 2-0 to ratify a memorandum of agreement with the Residual Unit and the Court Appointed Professional Employees Bargaining Units AFSCME, AFL-CIO District Council 87. Commissioners’ Chairman Wayne Nothstein was absent.

Commissioner Chris Lukasevich said the board was contacted by the AFSCME business manager on behalf of the 19 members from adult probation, juvenile probation and LPNs at the correctional facility.

The board agreed to pay these members $10 hazard pay per documented and verified visit with clients for the probation departments, as well as intakes for the LPNs.

“It’s mainly because of some of the increased risks they will take, primarily adult and juvenile probation, and two LPNs as they intake new inmates at the prison,” Lukasevich said.

The hazard pay agreement will be reviewed every two weeks, but will be in effect from April 20 through Dec. 31.
