Panther Valley senior is Eagle Scout
Brian A. Fisher, a Panther Valley High School senior, was presented with his Boy Scouting Eagle Scout pin during an Eagle Scout Court of Honor held at Meeds Memorial United Methodist Church in Nesquehoning.
His Eagle Scout project was bringing the nationally recognized "Vial of Life" project to Nesquehoning.Vial of Life consists of a packet that contains a medical information sheet, two decals letting emergency responders know you have a Vial of Life, and a baggie.The Vial of Life allows emergency medical personnel access to personal information during a medical situation in your home.The Vial of Life was distributed by going door-to-door. It took nearly 108 man-hours to complete the project.Fisher, a member of Nesquehoning Boy Scout Troop 744, was introduced by Scoutmaster Christopher Santore Sr.He is the son of Cheryl and Jerry Fisher. He has been involved in Boy Scouting for 12 years.Nesquehoning Mayor Sam Kitchko proclaimed Saturday, Oct. 31, as "Brian A. Fisher Day."Kitchko said Boy Scout Troop 744 has produced 16 Eagle Scouts.Assisting in the borough proclamation presentation was borough council member Mary Fox.State Rep. Doyle Heffley said, "Scouting teaches leadership skills."He awarded Fisher a proclamation from the State House of Representatives.Carbon County Commissioner William O'Gurek presented a proclamation from the commissioners. He said he was representing the board of commissioners, consisting of himself, Wayne Nothstein and Tom J. Gerhard.He said the work being done by people such as Fisher "is what makes America great.""Scouting has built our leaders," he said.His mother pinned the Eagle Scout Award on his chest.Former Scoutmaster Joseph Trimmel offered "the voice of the Eagle ceremony."Fellow Scout Jacob Snyder presented the meaning of the red, white and blue.Pastor Kimberly Leskowich offered the invocation and benediction.At Panther Valley High School, Fisher is a member of the National Honor Society, Student Leadership, football team and basketball team.He is a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Summit Hill.He said the idea for the Vial of Life project was suggested to him by Trimmel.
