The Jim Thorpe community lost one of its prominent residents when Dr. Joseph B. Sofranko, 428 North St., was found deceased in his home. Death was attributed to natural causes.A practicing cardiologist, Dr. Sofranko served as chief of medicine at the Gnaden Huetten Memorial Hospital, Lehighton, and was also a Carbon County deputy coroner from 1950-54 when Harry L. Doll was the coroner.A son of the late John and Mary (Janigan) Sofranko, he left behind three sisters, Mary and Veronica Sofranko and Sophie Lucas, and three brothers, John, the Rev. William and Norbert.
