Carbon County court - guilty pleas

Defendants in pending criminal cases entered a guilty plea before Judge Joseph J. Matika:

Shannon Eric Lacy, 42, of Palmerton, pleaded to one count each of resisting arrest and persistent disorderly conduct.He was arrested on July 18 by Palmerton police for an incident in the area of 265 Avenue B. Police were dispatched to the scene to a report of a male threatening suicide. Lacy was that male. While taking Lacy into custody to transport him to a hospital, he became unruly and struggled with the officers. Defense counsel Gregory Lee Mousseau said Lacy was having mental health issues at the time and is currently receiving counseling and is on medication for those issues.On the resisting charge Matika placed him on probation for a year and ordered he get a mental health evaluation and render 50 hours of community service. The same sentence was imposed on the conduct count, running currently with the resisting charge.Robert W. Mason, 44, of Lehighton, pleaded to one count of receiving stolen property. He was arrested by state police at Lehighton for an incident on Oct. 14, 2013, at the Alliance Sand Quarry, Golf Road, Lower Towamensing Township, where he took steel wiring from the site. He was previously placed in the county's Accelerated Rehabilitation Disposition probation program but was revoked from it for violating conditions. He is currently on probation in Northampton County.Matika placed him on probation for year, concurrent with Northampton County, and ordered he render 50 hours of community service.Mark John Suchon, 55, of Palmerton, pleaded to one count of persistent disorderly conduct. He was arrested by Palmerton police for an incident on July 4, 2014, in the area of 643 Delaware Ave. Police went to the area to serve a warrant on Suchon, who attempted to flee. He was caught and caused a disturbance when police placed him into custody. A charge of escape was dropped in a plea bargain.Matika placed him on probation for a year and ordered he render 50 hours of community service.Joshua Paul Hoffman, 21, of Palmerton, pleaded to one count of criminal trespass. He was arrested by state police at Lehighton for an incident at 915 Hahns Dairy Road in Towamensing Township. The victim of the incident was his grandfather.Sentencing was deferred.Lawrence S. Lewis Jr., 29, of Lansford, pleaded to one count of unauthorized use of an automobile. He was arrested by state police at Fern Ridge on April 4 in Penn Forest Township following a vehicle stop. He was driving a rental vehicle but was not the person who rented the vehicle and did not have that person's permission to be driving it.Lewis is currently in the county prison on the charge but has a detainer on him filed by the state parole board. He was on state parole at the time of the incident.Matika sentenced him to time served (183 days) to 18 months in jail and ordered he get a drug and alcohol evaluation and render 50 hours of community service when released on parole.Matika, however, noted that Lewis probably faces "a bigger hit" by the state parole board.Each defendant sentenced must also pay court costs of about $1,000, and a $50 per month supervision fee while on probation or parole.
