Last chance to pay those overdue tolls

If you have unpaid Turnpike toll violations, the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission could take away your vehicle registration.

The good news is that the turnpike is offering drivers a temporary chance to get a discount on their unpaid fines, but you have to act fast.On Friday, a new law goes into effect aimed at punishing chronic toll evaders. Act 165 allows the state to revoke the vehicle registration of any motorist who has more than six violations, or $500 in fines. To raise awareness, the turnpike commission held a partial toll amnesty program over the last month. It wraps up Friday at 7 p.m.Drivers with violations less than 60 days old can pay just their fine, all fees will be forgiven. For older fines, drivers could still see a smaller discount. If the fine has been referred to the Turnpike's collection agency, Duncan Solutions, they could still have some of the fees forgiven. In certain situations, a payment plan is available.Over the last three weeks, the Turnpike Commission has successfully collected from more than 1,600 toll violators. All told, they have closed out 20,000 violations, totaling more than $1 million."While it represents a fraction of the 10,611 violators who collectively owe the PA Turnpike $17.1 million, it is revenue we didn't have a month ago. Equally as important, chronic toll violators now know what they must do to avoid possible suspension of their vehicle registrations," Turnpike Chief Operating Officer Craig R. Shuey said.Drivers who are unsure whether they have a toll violation can visit

It provides stronger enforcement tools to all tolling agencies in the Commonwealth to ensure motorists who use a toll road or bridge pay what's owed.To learn more about the partial-amnesty program, or to check if you have unpaid PA Turnpike toll violations, visit
