Lansford Borough Council isn’t increasing its secretary’s pay to $30 an hour — yet, but part-time police officers will be earning that rate.

Council, which met twice in executive session Thursday to hammer out employment details, did raise borough secretary Ashley McLaughlin’s pay to $27 an hour.

Council had hoped that the former treasurer, Maria Ahner, who resigned earlier this year, would continue on a part-time basis and train McLaughlin in the treasurer’s duties.

However, Ahner did not feel comfortable training another employee, and would have preferred to be consulted before council acted. She instead chose to completely part ways with the borough.

Council had planned to hire a part-time secretary to help in the office but now will seek training for McLaughlin to take on the treasurer’s role and advertise for a full-time secretary.

The borough will seek an outside firm or certified public accountant to train McLaughlin in financial software and other areas, Genits said.

He believes they set a 90-day time frame and would offer McLaughlin the treasurer position, if she feels confident in the role.

McLaughlin’s pay could then increase to $30 an hour at that time, he said. Council could also be offering her a pension but did not formally act on the matter, Genits said.

Council did agree to raise the hourly wage of part-time police officers to $30 an hour. Part-time officers were making $27 an hour.

Council approved hiring two of its part-time officers as full-time officers Thursday night.

Another part-time officer recently resigned.
