Panther Valley HS gets new roof, gym floor and more
Panther Valley Superintendent Dave McAndrew noted numerous improvement projects going on in the district in his report to the school board Wednesday night.
“We have a lot of projects going on this summer,” he said. “We have the roof at the high school. We’re going to do some work in the auditorium and paving at the high school starting Monday.
“We have a gymnasium floor being replaced at the high school,” he said. “So, it’s a busy time at the high school.”
The board approved a proposal from Garland/DBS Inc. for roofing material and services for the high school roof.
The cost is $1,590,000 and will potentially be funded through restructuring the district’s long-term debt, Greg Gauronsky, business manager, said.
“By leveraging our excellent credit rating, we are optimizing our broader capital improvement plan to cover this infrastructure cost while protecting our current operating budget,” he said after the meeting.
McAndrew also thanked the administration for their work on this year’s graduation at the stadium.
“It was a beautiful night,” he said. “You did a wonderful job out there.”
McAndrew thanked Janet Fisher for the many years she spent in the district during her final board meeting as she retires as technology coordinator after 22 years.
“Janet, you will be missed,” he said, “Not just as our tech director, but as a friend here to all of us.”
Fisher was presented with gifts from the board.
“This is a great district to work with because of you,” she said. “We all work together for the kids. That’s what it comes down to. It’s the kids that matter, not our egos, or anything else. I have been blessed for 22 years working here. Thank you for all your support.”
Also introduced was Kelsey McLoughlin, the new tech coordinator, who attended her first board meeting.
