The Lehighton Band will bring its 2026 Summer Concert Series to a conclusion at 8 p.m. on Aug. 20 with an Action & Adventure Concert at the Lehighton Amphitheater Park.

Audiences of all ages are invited to enjoy an evening filled with music from some of the most beloved action, adventure, science-fiction, and fantasy films ever created, along with concert band classics that capture the excitement of epic journeys and heroic adventures.

The concert will begin with a patriotic Star-Spangled Banner with “Fanfare,” setting the tone for the evening, followed by “Captain America March,” a bold and energetic work that captures the courage and determination associated with one of America’s most recognizable heroes.

The adventure continues with “Pilatus: Mountains and Dragons” by James Swearingen, an original composition inspired by the towering peaks and legendary folklore surrounding Mount Pilatus in Switzerland. Filled with dramatic melodies, powerful percussion, and vivid musical imagery, the work takes listeners on a journey through soaring mountains and mythical landscapes.

Movie lovers will be treated to a lineup of film music beginning with “Back to the Future,” arranged by Johnny Vinson. Featuring Alan Silvestri’s score, this arrangement recalls the time-traveling adventures of Marty McFly and Doc Brown with its sweeping themes and exhilarating energy.

The band will then perform the “Theme from E.T.,” arranged by Ployhar. John Williams’ beloved score beautifully captures the wonder, innocence, and emotional friendship between Elliott and his extraordinary visitor from another world.

From a galaxy far, far away comes “Star Wars: The Last Jedi,” arranged by Paul Murtha. This arrangement features several memorable themes from the eighth chapter of the Star Wars saga, showcasing the grandeur, excitement, and emotional depth that have made Williams’ music legendary.

Superhero fans will enjoy “Superman,” arranged by Bob Lowden, featuring Williams’ iconic music from the classic 1978 film starring Christopher Reeve. With its soaring brass fanfares and heroic melodies, this timeless score remains one of the greatest film themes ever written and perfectly captures the spirit of the Man of Steel.

The concert also will feature a solo performance by Grace Heist performing “Nightfall” for alto saxophone and band. Heist recently graduated from West Chester University with a degree in Music Education and has returned to her hometown of Palmerton. She has been a familiar face with the Lehighton Band for many years, performing throughout high school and returning to play with the ensemble whenever her college schedule allowed.

Continuing the evening’s theme, the band will perform “A Bridge Too Far” by John Addison, the stirring music from the acclaimed war film depicting one of the most ambitious Allied operations of World War II. The powerful score conveys both the courage and sacrifice of those involved in the historic mission.

One of the evening’s highlights will be “Guardians of the Galaxy,” arranged by Michael Brown. This entertaining medley features several classic rock favorites heard throughout the popular Marvel films, including “Hooked on a Feeling,” “Come and Get Your Love,” “Cherry Bomb,” and “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough.” The nostalgic soundtrack has become nearly as famous as the films themselves and is sure to have audience members smiling and singing along.

No adventure concert would be complete without dinosaurs. The band will perform “Themes from Jurassic Park,” arranged by Calvin Custer, bringing Williams’ magnificent score to life. From the main theme to the suspenseful musical moments that accompany the prehistoric giants, this music continues to inspire audiences more than three decades after the film’s release.

The evening will conclude with “The Stars and Stripes Forever” by John Philip Sousa.

Admission is free, and audience members are encouraged to bring a lawn chair or blanket. While there is no admission charge, the Lehighton Band is a nonprofit community organization, and freewill donations are accepted to help support future concerts and musical programs.

In the event of rain, the concert will be held at the Lehighton Boys and Girls Band Hall.
