Franklin Twp. rolls past Palmerton

With a record of 11-2, Franklin Township has established itself as one of the top teams in the Lehigh Valley Junior Connie Mack League this season.

That showed again Thursday night in a dominant 15–1, five‑inning win over Palmerton.

Franklin wasted no time seizing control, scoring six runs in the first inning.

After two walks opened the frame, Alex Kish jump‑started the offense with a two-run triple to right field. An RBI single by Brian Mriss pushed the lead to 3–0, followed by a base hit from Carter Spotts.

Another walk set the table for Myles Meek, who ripped a two‑run single to make it 5–0. Landon Steigerwalt also singled in the inning, and Franklin’s sixth run crossed on a hit by pitch.

“Any time you can jump out to a six‑run lead in the first, it’s a good sign for your ball club,” said Franklin Township manager Ben Moyer. “We tell our kids to hit the ball hard, put it in play, and make the other team make plays.

“They executed that tonight, just like they have all summer. We also drew a bunch of walks because our kids are disciplined. The message is simple: don’t chase pitches in the dirt or above your head.”

On the mound, Miles Mann cruised through the first inning, retiring Palmerton in order.

Franklin kept the momentum rolling in the second, with hits from Mriss and Brody Hunsicker to extend the lead to 7–0.

Palmerton broke through in the bottom half when Zack Zelinsky singled and later scored on a fielder’s choice, but that was all the offense the Bombers could generate.

Franklin answered right back.

Three hits in the third — by Mann, Roman White, and Kish — fueled a three‑run inning that pushed the lead to 10–1.

The fourth inning put the game out of reach as Meek, Grant Hunter, Owen Moyer and Spotts each delivered hits in a four‑run explosion that stretched the margin to 15–1.

Mann was outstanding on the hill for Franklin, allowing just one hit and one run across three innings. Mason Neff came on in relief and tossed two scoreless innings, giving up only two hits.

“Our pitching has been great,” Moyer said. “We don’t walk many guys, our defense has been steady, and when we’ve needed to make plays, we’ve made them.

“Mann and Neff did a good job tonight. We’ve got five pitchers we trust to throw strikes. As long as we limit walks and play solid defense, we’ll be in good shape.”

Offensively, Meek led the way with three hits and two RBIs. Kish added two hits and three RBIs, and Spotts chipped in two hits and two RBIs.
