Tamaqua grandmother starts little library
A Tamaqua woman who founded an online support group for grandparents raising their grandchildren has now started a little library.
Carmen McGlothlin recently opened “The Grand Chapter” little library at 338 Arlington St.
“I’m proud to share a new little library in front of my home — created in honor of grandparents raising grandchildren and dedicated to my grandchildren,” she said.
McGlothlin started the Grandparents Raising Grandchildren support group in 2017. It has grown to include thousands of members, who share information on resources available in all states. They also share their own stories with compassion, understanding and experience.
With “The Grand Chapter,” McGlothlin invites all to take a book or share a book when they pass by.
“The shelf is filled with love, legacy and stories for all ages,” she noted.
McGlothlin built the library box, but had help from Richard Vanderwater, who donated and assembled the post and pedestal; Ryan Oldt, who set the post; and Karrisa Valentine, Samantha Bernitsky and Dominick McGlothlin, who donated children’s books.
“This has truly been a wonderful example of a community coming together,” McGlothlin said. “I’m so grateful to be part of such a caring and supportive group.”
