Lansford kicks off holiday tree-lighting on Sunday

Friends of Lansford Recreation and Lansford Alive will welcome Santa Claus to the borough on Sunday afternoon.

Santa will make his entrance at 2 p.m. in Kennedy Park via firetruck to greet and take photos with children ahead of the annual tree lighting.

Food and music will be available throughout the afternoon as the borough ushers in the holiday season.

People can also walk among 50 uniquely decorated Christmas trees, which were purchased and decorated throughout the week by school and community groups, as well as individuals.

The Panther Valley High School band will kick off the program at 4 p.m. with the national anthem.

Lansford councilwoman Gwyneth Collevecchio, who coordinated the tree lighting for the Friends of Lansford Recreation, will welcome everyone, and the Panther Valley Ensemble will perform holiday songs.

Debby Kunkle will read, “’Twas the Night Before Christmas,” and then the Panther Valley Fourth Grade Chorus will perform songs.

Yvonne Stoffey will read the list of trees purchased and decorated this year, and Kathy Crampsie and the St. Joseph’s CCD Chorus will perform.

Lansford Alive and Friends of Recreation members will have holiday messages for all, and Joe Krushinsky will sing some Christmas songs ahead of the tree lighting.

All 50 trees that line Patterson Street and others around the gazebo in the park will be lit at 5:15 p.m.

The trees will remain lit throughout the holiday season and into the New Year.
