Walker Twp. looking for part-time officers

Walker Township is still looking to hire additional part-time police officers for flexible hours, and will be advertising the position. The rate of pay will be $22 to $24 per hour, depending on the level of experience. Contact the Walker Township Municipal Office at 570-668-4603.

Supervisors passed a motion to draft a resolution to increase the hourly rate paid to the auditors to $18/hour. A resolution will need to be approved at a future meeting. The new rate will not take affect until the start of their next term; for one of them, that will be two years away. For others, approximately six years away.

Road Master Chad Felty reported last week that he has been filling potholes on several roads in the township. He will be taking care of some on Brook Lane, Meadow Lane, and Kettle Road once he gets a new delivery of asphalt. He is looking at possible milling some of the areas to repair them.

Felty also reported that he will be fixing the shoulders of some of the roads in the near future.

Felty advised that the township will need to purchase approximately 1,200 gallons of fuel oil. He advised the supervisors that Fegley’s price was $2.66/gallon, Countryside $2.83/gallon, and K&K is $2.99/gallon.

He is also looking to purchase 300 to 400 gallons of heating oil. Fegley’s price is $2.57/gallon, Countryside is $3.08/gallon, and K&K is $2.99/gallon.

The supervisors passed a motion to purchase the fuel oil and the heating oil from Fegley’s at the above prices.

Felty reported that the New England Fire Company responded to eight calls over the month of April, 2024: three trees down, some on wires; wires down on Route 443 near the PennDOT shed; two brush fire/burning complaints; a working house fire in West Penn Township; and a garage fire in New Ringgold.

The fire company held several fundraisers over the month of April. They held two cornhole tournaments, and the band The Majestics performed on April 12.

On Saturday, the fire company will hold a Chicken barbecue fundraiser. The dinner is drive-thru takeout only Pick up is from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. or until they are sold out.

The fire company will also be selling potted geranium plants for Mother’s Day during the dinner.
