State police at Frackville reported on crashes

State police at the Frackville barracks reported the following crashes:

• Christopher J. Leitzel, 36, of Ashland, sustained suspected minor injuries in a one-vehicle crash at 10:43 p.m. April 13 on Mahanoy Avenue (Route 54) in Rush Township.

Police said he was transported by personnel from the Tamaqua Community Ambulance Association to the St. Luke’s Hospital, Miners Campus, Coaldale.

He was driving a 2022 Jeep Compass westbound when it traveled off the roadway and struck a rock causing the vehicle to overturn.

Police said a strong odor of alcohol was detected emanating from Leitzel, who was also taken for a chemical test of his blood. He was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and cited for the incident. The Jeep was towed from the scene.

• Batiste X. Barbedette, 20, of Cumbola, had minor injuries in a one-vehicle crash at 5:38 a.m. March 27 on Pine Creek Road in East Brunswick Township.

Police said he was driving a 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee northbound when he lost control of the vehicle due to fatigue. It traveled off the west side of the roadway and struck a tree.

Police said the vehicle sustained disabling front-end damages. Barbedette was cited for the crash.

• Charles E. Mest III, 32, of Lehighton, was cited after a one-vehicle crash at 6:39 a.m. March 29 on Lizard Creek Road in Penn Township.

Police said he was driving a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee eastbound when he fell asleep. The vehicle left the roadway and struck an embankment. The Jeep was towed from the scene. No injuries were reported.
