Girl Scouts announce Women of Distinction

Girl Scouts in the Heart of Pennsylvania announces women who have been selected as honorees for the organization’s Women of Distinction event on April 24.

Four of the honorees represent each of the pillars of the Girl Scout Leadership Experience which includes STEM, Life Skills, Entrepreneurship and Outdoors. As champions of women in leadership, the selected honorees serve as positive role models and figures of inspiration to girls and women in our local communities. The honorees include:

• Dr. Ericka Powell, Lancaster, vice president of medical affairs, WellSpan Ephrata Community Hospital; STEM

• Delma Rivera-Lytle, York, retired Diversity Education Specialist, Central York School District; Life Skills

• Donna Schankweiler, Harrisburg, former co-owner of Central Penn Business Journal; Entrepreneurship

• Lauren Ferreri, Lancaster, Biological and Visitors Center Manager, Middle Creek Wildlife Management Area; Outdoors

“We look forward to honoring these women for their accomplishments in the areas of STEM, Life Skills, Entrepreneurship and Outdoors. The four pillars serve as crucial touchpoints for Girl Scouts,” said Miriam DeFehr, Chief Operating Officer of Girl Scouts in the Heart of Pennsylvania.

“Our honorees show girls in our local communities the importance of these fundamentals and the opportunity for success they offer.”

Girl Scouts will also recognize the legacy of Mary “Sue” Elizabeth Stone as this year’s recipient of the Girl Scouts in the Heart of Pennsylvania Generational Award. This award celebrates those who have lived by and shared the values of Girl Scouts with their community and future generations. Her daughters Margaret Burton Conners and Jane Murray will speak about her at the event, to be held at the Lancaster County Club, 1466 New Holland Pike, Lancaster.
