8 businesses cited for liquor law violations

Seven Schuylkill County businesses and one from Schnecksville have been cited by the Pennsylvania State Police, Bureau of Liquor Control Enforcement, for violating state liquor laws.

In January, officers received 188 complaints, which resulted in 25 violation letters being issued for violations of liquor laws and 24 warning letters.

The Schuylkill and Schnecksville businesses that were among those cited:

• VGV Beverages, Mahanoy City - On Feb. 7, 2023, sold alcoholic beverages on credit; on Jan. 31 and Feb. 2 and 7, 2023, possessed gambling devices and paraphernalia or permitted gambling or lotteries, poolselling and/or bookmaking on its premises; on Feb. 7, 2023, failed to display evidence that the premises meets the sanitary requirements for a public eating place; on Feb. 7, 2023, didn’t display its restaurant liquor license under a transparent substance on the premises; and between Nov. 4, 2021, and Feb. 7, 2023, operated another business on the licensed premises.

• Community Fire Company No. 1, North Whitehall Township, Schnecksville - During the period of Oct. 26 through Dec. 19, 2023, manager didn’t complete owner/manager training within 180 days of the board’s approval of the appointment.

• Francesco’s Restaurant, Shenandoah - From Nov. 9 through Dec. 18, 2023, manager didn’t complete owner/manager training within 180 days of the board’s approval of the appointment.

• Pocono Enterprise Co., Shenandoah - On Oct. 28 and Dec. 2, 3 and 16, 2023, music could be heard beyond the licensee’s property line; and on the same dates, operated the business in a noisy and/or disorderly manner.

• Share Ganesh, Saint Clair - During the period of June 29 through Nov. 9, 2023, failed to maintain complete and faithful malt or brewed dispensing system cleaning records; on Nov. 4, 2023, failed to clean malt or brewed beverage dispensing system least once every 14 days; Sept. 1 and Oct. 21 and 25, 2023, operated gambling devices or paraphernalia or permitted gambling or lotteries, poolselling and/or bookmaking on the premises; and on Oct. 25, 2023, failed to display evidence that the premises meets sanitary requirements for a public eating place.

• Hang Loose, Tamaqua - On Dec. 14, 2023, permitted use a loudspeaker or similar device allowing music and other entertainment beyond the licensee’s property line.

• Country Squire, Schuylkill Haven - From May 25, 2023, through Jan. 4, 2024, failed to return its hotel liquor license and wholesale liquor purchase permit cards to the board after the establishment had not been in operation for a period of 15 consecutive days; and during Oct. 1 through Dec. 18, 2023, failed to have its manager complete owner/manager training within 180 days of the board’s approval of the appointment.

• Sheetz, Schuylkill Haven - During the period pf June 22, 2019, through Sept. 17, 2023, failed to comply with the law with regard to responsible alcohol management.

The charges will be brought before an administrative law judge who has the authority to impose penalties ranging from $50 to $1,000 for minor offenses and up to $5,000 for more serious offenses.
